Ubuntu-Club Training with NEMISA and the Vodacom Foundation
A group of our Ubuntu Club members have just completed training in electronic media and information technology in Johannesburg. The training, provided by NEMISA (National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa) run in partnership with the Vodacom Foundation and is designed to develop IT literacy skills and explore ways in which the technology can be used to create sustainable business opportunities for its participants. Ubuntu club members learned how to use a combination of mobile technologies to record interviews and then edit these into a story using desktop software. In the next few weeks, we'll be putting together an assignment for the participants that explore the lives and experiences of unemployed youth in South Africa's townships – stay tuned for more!
JARP Video Series
The good news about the successes of JARP, the Justice and Restoration Project, continues to draw interest from a number of sectors. The approach not only helps restore the balance once a wrong has been committed, it reduces case load and overwork in the criminal justice system thereby offering opportunities for time and cost saving. The project is lead by George Lai Thom and Siegrid Schulenburg who are participating on producing a video series about the project. The series is designed to provide in-depth understanding and ‘train-the-trainer’ materials that enable the transfer of knowledge and the development of facilitator expertise.
