Free to Be Me Puppet Programme - sponsored by the National Lottery
Because children transform their own stories in the puppet show, narrative therapy is at the core of the Khulisa People Puppet Programme. This respectful, non-blaming approach to counselling and community work, which centres people as experts in their own lives helps to resotre children's broken relationships, build much needed self confidence, self knowledge as assertiveness.

Because children transform their own stories in the puppet show, narrative therapy is at the core of the Khulisa People Puppet Programme. This respectful, non-blaming approach to counselling and community work, which centres people as experts in their own lives helps to resotre children's broken relationships, build much needed self confidence, self knowledge as assertiveness.
A minimum of 10 facilitators will receive 5 day training at Khulisa’s Head Office during which early 2012, during which time:-
They will be taught how to make the puppets and skills of puppet presentation/puppetry
They will receive their outfits for the mascot ‘Joe-Khul’
They will receive training on the new scripts which cover the following topics:
1. Child Abuse
2. Drugs and Alcohol
3. Hygiene (7-10 year olds) / Sexuality (11-13 year olds)
4. Bullying
The scripts have been developed for 2 age levels: 7-10 & 11-13.
Each of the puppeteers will receive a completed puppet theatre which will be utilised for all their projects
“The National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund ( NLDTF) relies on funds generated by the National Lottery. The Lotteries Act identified the manner in which NLDTF funding may be allocated. The Minister of Trade and Industry, on the recommendation of the industry experts I the relevant Distributing Agency, makes the policy that guides the allocation of funds to beneficiaries. It is the aim of the NLDTF that the grants made will make a difference to the lives of all South Africans, especially those more vulnerable. The NDLTF is dedicated to improving sustainability of the beneficiary organization it funds.
The NDLTF currently has in the region of R2 billion a year to distribute to registered non-profit organisations in the fields of charities; arts culture and national heritage and sport and recreation that meet the qualifying criteria.
The NDLTF places emphasis on areas of greatest need and greatest potential, so that all South Africans can gain from, and contribute to , South Africa’s development.”
